Authorities and students of Prempeh College have celebrated their victory in the World Robotic Champions event which was held virtually for the year 2020.
Globally, the school after featuring in the virtual contest with other teams emerged the winner, hence the holding of the celebration on Friday 23rd April, 2021.
During the contest, competing teams were tasked to design a robot attached to a wood piece, which would autonomously and without any help put golf balls in five different colours into a hole-slot within a set time without dropping any of the balls.
The celebration of the monumental success in question witnessed a pomp attendants of old students of the school and among them was the Executive Director for UMB Charles Kwame Asare who acted as the Chairperson for the occasion.
This is the 3rd time the school has won the competition, having won in 2013 and 2016.
It is also the second successive time that a team mentored by the Ghana Robotic Academy Foundation (GRAF) has led a team from Ghana to be champions.
Addressing the gathering, UMB Executive Director after congratulating the students for consistently excelling and winning said that the kind of activities the school has gotten involved will define Ghana in the next 20 to 40 years to come.
In his statement, he underlined the need to fund the course (robotic exercise), advising that government should help support the activity financially.
He also called on old students to support the school so as to help students find their way to the future.
Charles Kwame Asare UMB Executive Director supported the team with a pledge of GHs 10,000 a year for the next five years.
