Officials of Ghana Meteorological Agency have announced that this year’s harmattan will intensify over the country from today 20th January 2021 and continue into the weekend.
A letter dated on 19th January 2021 and signed by Michael Padi (Head of CAFO) For Director-General has hinted that “dust has been raised from the source region (around CHAD) and is expected to be adverted into the country to deteriorate surface visibility.”
The letter continues to state that; “Due to the influx of the dry and dusty continental winds, the Northern half is expected to be drier with relative humidity of less than 20 % and below 50% over parts of the Southern Sector. This intrusion of dryness increases the probability of fire outbreaks.
The general public is advised as follows;
- Be cautious of handling naked fires
- Be careful on the roads due to poor visibility.
