A prominent conference speaker who is contesting for the parliamentary seat of Atwima Nwabiagya South constituency on the ticket of Liberal Party Ghana (LPG) has sent out a strong advise to Ghanaians to refrain from heaping insults on the sitting President Nana Addo Danquah Akuffo Addo and former President Mahama all because of politics.
Sarfo Manasseh popularly referred to as “Papa Manasseh” gave reasons that the two political figures are very important personalities and should therefore be accorded all the needed reverence they deserve.
“They have and are serving this country. John Mahama and Nana Addo Danquah Akuffo Addo are great characters whether you like it or not”.
Speaking to a youth group of Atwima Koforidua in Ashanti region, Papa Manasseh expressed his detest against how “sometimes young people of today go to the Facebook wall of President Akuffo Addo and Ex-President Mahama to issue comments of insult on them. What kind of behavior is that? It worries me whenever I see that and it questions the future of this nation. Where are we heading to as a nation?
If young man/woman of 20 years can just go to a 74-year old man’s social media handle to issue comments of insult on him, then what kind of nation are we building? It’s a disgrace to Ghanaians and Africans. This is not out culture. We are not trained to insult our leaders, but we have been raised by parents and the society to respect the elderly and leaders.
If Mahama or Akuffo Addo was to be your father or your uncle, would you not have been proud of it? They represent our county internationally; they are the embodiment of our nation. Let’s treat them with great respect.”
He again indicated that apart from Kofi Akpallo (Founder and flagbearer of LPG) who is likely to become the next president of Ghana , any of the two gentlemen can assume or retain the presidential seat in the upcoming December elections “so we should be mindful of how we handle them during these times of elections”.
