I want to ask you this question;
On how many occasions have you walked past someone just casually drinking an energy drink like its some kind of juice or water?
Many people around us barely know what is inside these so called energy drinks and the type of stuff the ingredients do to our bodies.
Besides keeping you awake and energised, these drinks do quite a number of damaging things to the body.
Below are the Ingredients in energy drink;
· Caffeine
· Guarana
.Please be informed that a single container of an energy drink may contain 54 to 62 grams of added sugar; an obvious overload of the maximum amount of added sugars recommended for an entire day.
· Ginseng
· Taurine
Here Are the effects on your body:
Although they might keep you awake for the night or help you stay physically strong and awake, caffeinated drinks have other effects which you should definitely know about.
Caffeine results in increased blood pressure, sleep disturbances, headaches and stomach aches.
Not only does it do that, but it also has other implications on your behaviour, physical health and mental health.
Behaviour:
Shockingly, it has been disclosed that drinkers who mix their alcohol with energy drinks are more likely to engage in risky behaviour.
For example, more energiser drinkers report drinking and driving, engaging in unwanted or unprotected sex and even sustaining alcohol-related injuries.
Additionally, caffeine and energy drinks are highly addictive.
People can become addicted which can eventually lead to the financial stress of not being able to afford buying energisers everyday and also the inability to function when there are no energy drinks.
So although they will give you a high and keep you awake for as long as they can, they have a great effect on your functionality!
Body health
As reported earlier, energy drinks contain a high dose of sugar, meaning that they can attack cells which are meant to protect our bodies from getting type 2 diabetes. Ab abuse of energisers puts a drinker at the risk of getting type 2 diabetes.
Not only will you be at risk of getting diabetes, but the high sugar level mixed with the high calories might increase your risk of getting bowel cancer.
In conclusion, Caffeine causes dehydration which might eventually lead to the development of kidney stones.
Mental health
The consumption of energisers leads to insomnia, problems with behavioural regulation sensation-seeking behaviour, self-destructive behaviour and poor lifestyle behaviours.
If you would like to switch from energy drinks to something more healthier, then maybe you should try drinking:
· Green tea, juices or smoothies
· Water
· Organic energy drinks
