SNV Ghana has since 2019 succeeded in promoting sustainable and climate-resilient growth of the local economy in the Ashanti and Western Regions through the Green Project.

Officials are co-implementing the project in partnership with the UN Capital Development Fund and the Ministry of Local Government, Decentralisation and Rural Development with funding from the European Union and mother organisation, the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Ghana.

Among the key tools adopted to is skills development.

Under the flagship Programme, Opportunities for Youth Employment (OYE), SNV Ghana is providing practical and employable skills to young people who are looking for job.

SNV is achieving the foregoing by working together with institutional and skills training partners.

These were disclosed by Laouali Sadda, Project Manager, Boosting Green Employment and Enterprise Opportunities in Ghana (GrEEn) Project- SNV Ghana at the 2023 GrEEn regional job fair held in Ashanti region at the Prempeh Assembly Hall on Tuesday, 26th September, 2023.

He said that SNV has gone a step further
“by matching skills to opportunities in the green and circular
economy by linking youth job seekers to employers, coaches, and
mentors so they can receive on-the-job technical skills, business
development support or internship opportunities through the OYE
internship programme.

Under OYE and as part of our GrEEn Project, we
have been rolling out job fairs with the aim of preparing job seekers by
offering CV Review support, career guidance and counselling and
connecting job seekers to green employers.

Since the inception of the GrEEn Project, SNV Ghana has organised a
total of 14 jobs fairs: 8 at the local level together with Municipal and
District Assembly partners in the Ashanti and Western Regions (Adansi
South,Ejura-Sekyedumase, Offinso North and Sekyere Kumawu in the
Ashanti Region and Ahanta West, Wassa Amenfi, Nzema East and the Jomoro Municipality in the Western Region), where GrEEn is being
implemented.

In 2021 and 2022, we partnered the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) and Association of Ghana Industries to organise four job fairs at the regional level in Kumasi and Takoradi.”

EVENT

The 2023 Green Regional Job Fair had two main objectives: to inspire
young people to seek and explore green job opportunities and solutions in TVET and then to expose participants to career pathway opportunities
within the green value chain in WASH, Agriculture and Renewable
energy.

The event also served aa platform for officials to provide business development support to
entrepreneurs and encourage more youth to kick start their green
businesses.

Laouali Sadda said SNV Ghana is dedicated to promoting sustainable job creation.
