A group of soldiers patrolling Mpeasem, a community located within the Denkyira West District of Central region have burnt the motor bike of an innocent farmer in their fight against illegal mining.

Enoch Owusu Mensah, aged 23 told the media that he was with his father on their palm plantation on Saturday 15th May 2021 at about 10:27am harvesting palm wine when four armed soldiers rushed on them amidst gun shots, dragged his Haogin motor bike away and set it ablaze.

The victim who is also a student of Webster College detailed the media in his narration that he went to the farm after he was called by his father to come over and covey some of the harvested palm wine to the house.

Arriving at the farm, he said that they (he and his father) heard the sound of gun shots at a distance but realised that the sound was fast approaching them.

He explained that within the space of few minutes, four armed men in soldiers uniform came where they were and levelled charges against them that they are one of the galamseyers operating in the area.

The victim said that he together with his father denied the charges. However he indicated that the soldiers snubbed their defense and angrily burnt his motor bike worth GHs 4,500 and left the area.

He told the media that they informed the assemblyman but til now nothing has been done as a way of compensation.

He has therefore called on authorities to intervene and help replace his damaged motor bike and effect the necessary punishment against them.
