President Commissions Community Library At Bantama Constituency

 

 

President of the Republic of Ghana H.E Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo has commissioned an E-library at Bantama constituency.

The facility is situated within the Bantama M/A School and was built by the Member of Parliament for the area, Hon Francis Asenso Boakye.

It bears the official name “Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo Community Library and Technology Hub”; an identity given by the MP as an expression of gratitude for the President’s stellar policies and efforts that have enhanced the standard of education in Ghana.

 

The commissioning was done on Wednesday, 15th November, 2023.

Assisting the President was Nana Baffour Owusu Amankwatia V- Chief of Bantama.

Speaking at the event, CEO for Ghana Library Authority, Mr. Hayford Siaw said the facility is the 127th library in Ghana, having a seating capacity of 60 and well stocked with 5,000 books.

The uniqueness of the facility according to him lies in the E-library component, owing to the vision and efforts of the Member of Parliament.

He disclosed that the facility has increased to 66; the number of libraries built under the governance of H.E Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo.

He explained that in the year 2017 , Ghana had only 61 public libraries and inferring from the total number which is 127, the 66 libraries built under the tenure of President Nana Addo represents over hundred percent increase in the total number of public libraries.

Mr. Hayford Siaw further disclosed that when Nana was sworn into office in 2017, Ghana had only 349 books in the shelves of public libraries. He disclosed that the number of books has now increased to 1.5 million.

In his address, the Member of Parliament, Hon Francis Asenso Boakye said he naming the facility after the President was a way of thanking H.E for the nurturing and tutelage he received from him (President) which have made him who he is today.

He mentioned that the foregoing is what instilled in him values such as honesty, hard-working, compassion, among other positive traits.

Hon Asenso recalled that, right after assuming office as the MP, he realised as needful, the provision of a platform that will enhance reading and learning among students in the constituency, hence his efforts towards making sure each community gets a library and a technology hub.

Hon Asenso Boakye said naming the facility after the President was also a way of thanking him for the many initiatives towards the promotion of education in Ghana, stating that within the next 10 years, people will realise how relevant Nana Addo’s policies on education are.

Addressing the gathering, President Akuffo-Addo thanked the MP and residents of the constituency for the honor.

He said he is so much pleased by the fact the facility has a link with education.

President underlined the gesture as a prove of how the people of Bantama understand and support his delivery and policies on education.

He also thanked the constituency for having confidence in the MP, indicating that as a President he has always loved Hon Francis Asenso Boakye for his commitment and efficiency.

He therefore admonished residents within the Constituency to offer him another chance by retaining him in office as MP for the area in the upcoming election.
