Elders of Offinso Ahyirem Royal Family have quashed what they have described as derogatory comments which was made by members of a group called “Concern Youth of Offinso” at a press conference held by the latter few days ago.
They have also invalidated the “no K.K Sarpong, no Chief” chant made by the youth amidst the display of placards, saying that throughout the history of Asanteman, no person has ever been chosen for a chieftaincy position through the influence of placards and demonstration.
According to the elders, the Asantehene does what is deemed fit and that his decisions cannot be annulled or challenged by anyone.
The concerned youth at their press conference kicked against Manhyia Palace’s decision that the Kingmakers of the Offinso Traditional Area should bring a new person to succeed the late paramount Chief, Nana Wiafe Akenten II instead of the former Chief Executive of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), Dr. Kofi Koduah Sarpong.
They said in their press statement that the Asantehene has no power to destool or enstool any paramount chief and he should allow Offinso Hemaa to do her work.
In a counter press conference held on Thursday 2nd November, 2023, Head of the Offinso Ahyirem Royal Family, Nana Kwaku Bour critiqued that the youth are portraying the issue as though the Asantehene detests Dr. K.K Sarpong being enstooled as the paramount Chief for Offinso.
He set the record straight that Dr. K.K Sarpong has no royal lineage entitling him to the powerful stool of Offinso.
Nana Bour explained that Dr. K.K Sarpong has no evidence to prove his royalty and that he didn’t burry his mother and has not even buried any of his relatives at Offinso before.
“It was just recently that he put up a building at Offinso. Even during the one week observation of the late Nana Wiafe Akenten II, Dr. K.K Sarpong made a financial donation at the one week observation, meanwhile a royal is not supposed to do that.’
