Obuasi’s Covid-19 situation; 587 residents test positive…women highly affected

 

 

587 residents at Obuasi have so far tested positive for the coronavirus infection, www.leakynews.net has been informed.

Out of the total number of confirmed cases, Obuasi Municipality alone has recorded 381 positive cases whereas the figure for Obuasi East stands at 206.

Per info scooped by Leakynews.net from officials of the Ashanti Regional Health Directorate on the sex distribution of confirmed covid-19 cases for both areas, the rate of infection among women is higher than that of men.

Female residents account for 51 percent of the overall number of cases. Males also account for 49 percent.

 

As at April 19th,Obuasi had only 9 cases but interestingly between 21st of April to 27th of April, the rate of coronavirus infection sadly shot up to 300.

AGE DISTRIBUTION OF CASES AND DEATHS

Health officials have disclosed that more youth have tested positive for covid-19 more than adults. Those who fall between 20-29 years are currently on top and have recorded more than 120 positive cases.

Briefing the media, the Ashanti Regional Health Director Dr. Emmanuel Tenkorang however underlined a decline in the rate of infection at Obuasi, explaining that it was only during the period of 19th of April to 27th April that the area had the upsurge of the cases.

“Since then the number of cases have reduced in Obuasi. So all interventions that is needed to be done is to reinforce what we are already doing. Adhering to the protocols and guidelines as far as personal hygiene is concerned. The use of sanitizers and more importantly wearing of face masks and social distancing… and ones the people of Obuasi and other areas adhere to the protocols very well, I don’t think we will have lot of cases anymore”, he explained.
