Mayor for Kumasi Metropolis Hon Osei Assibey has said that President Akuffo-Addo took a good decision by calling back all students to school after the long period of break in the wake of Covid-19 pandemic.
During his “My First Day At School” visit to some schools within the metropolis on Tuesday 19th January 2020, he said he realized from his interaction with some of the pupil that they (pupil) now know much about Covid-19 and the need for adherence to all safety protocols.
“We did realize that they are now on top. They know everything about Covid and they demonstrated how we should live our lives to avoid getting the Covid. It is convincing that the President took a good decision by calling back all the students to school”, he indicated.
As the level of compliance to Covid-19 safety protocols increases among students within the various schools, he charged parents to take the mater up seriously by ensuring that their wards’ adherence to the protocols doesn’t end in the school.
“They should ensure that their children adhere to all the safety protocols when they are in the house.”
He gave reasons that though the level of compliance is very high at the various institutions, people within the communities are living their lives as if there is no Covid “but if you come to the institutions you will see everybody complying.”
“The protocols need to be hammered on very well in our communities. People should be reminded day-in-and-day-out. We want them alive not dead”, he added.
Kumasi Mayor on Tuesday visited the cluster of schools at Fankyenebra M/A Primary School and Kumasi Secondary Technical School (KSTS).
At the foremost institution, he distributed sanitizers, nose masks, exercise books, pencils, erasers, sharpeners, “kalypo” drinks, biscuits among others to pupil within the school.
From there, he visited KSTS to observe how students were complying with the Covid safety protocols. He also inspected some newly constructed dormitories.
