
The Muslim Family Counselling Services supported a survivor of child marriage to learn skills of her choice in weaving at Zebilla in Bawku West District of the Upper East Region of Ghana.
Saratu was forced into marriage by her family due to poverty and to honour their culture belief of providing a good future for her through marriage where it is expected that the man will provide her needs and take Good care of her but the marriage resulted in Saratu given birth at 16 and now divorced and living with her mother a farmer.
Though MFCS’s on going project dubbed improving Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive health in Bawku Area a project funded by AmplifyChange a UK based organisation 100 Faith, traditional and community leaders including teachers we given training in promoting ASRHR and ending Sexual and Gender Based Violence in Bawku area to serve as community champions in advocating to promote girls education and end Sexual and gender based violence including child marriages.
