President nominee for Bekwai Municipal Chief Executive position Hon Kwaku Kyei Baffour narrowly escaped a rejection of his nomination at the assembly’s version MMDCEs elections.
As the Ashanti Regional Minister Hon Simon Osei, MP doubling as 1st Deputy Speaker Hon Joe Osei, confirmed MMDCEs of other assemblies who were present sat conformably in anticipation of a 100% victory for Hon Kwaku Kyei at the election held on Friday 1st October 2021,the final results declared by officials of Electoral Commission dashed their hopes to the bin as only 32 assembly members present voted Yes.
Shockingly, 15 voted No. One ballot was rejected.
Nothwistanding the shock, the President nominee was successfully declared the confirmed MCE elect for the municipality for the area after scoring two thirds of the total vote cast.
However, Ashanti regional Minister at the prologue stage of the event pleaded with the assembly members to give the nominee a 100 percent confirmation.
He explained to them that His Excellency Nana Addo Danquah Akuffo-Addo will visit the municipality come Sunday 3rd October 2021 and that it will pain him bitterly should he arrive and hear report that his nominee was not given a 100 percent confirmation.
Premised on the foregoing, Hon Simon Osei in his address begged them to forgive the nominee if he had offended any of them (assembly members).
Sadly the above plea was not headed by 16 members of the assembly.
