mighty earthquake shakes up Mexico…five people killed

 

 

Five people are reported dead after a mighty earthquake centered near the southern Mexico resort of Huatulco on Tuesday. The incident caused thousands of people to flee for safety as buildings swayed in Mexico city.

According to Mexico President Andrés Manuel López Obrador one person was killed in a building collapse in Huatulco, Oaxaca.

Otherwise he said reports were of minor damage from the magnitude 7.4 quake, comprising broken windows and collapsed walls.

Two additional deaths were reported by the Federal civil defense authorities. The deceased were a worker at the state-run oil company, Pemex who fell to his death from a refinery structure and another man who died in the Oaxaca village of San Agustin Amatengo when a wall fell on him.
