Sekyere East District Assembly has until now failed to append it’s signature for the release of the MP’s common fund to facilitate the completion of a Rural Electrification Project, MP Hon Dr. Nana Ayew Afriyie has announced.
The abandoned project after completion is expected to benefit close to ten communities in the area.
Deductions from a recent statement of the Member of Parliament suggests that the contracted company has not been able to resume work due to the assembly’s refusal to sign documents that will fast tract the release of the fund.
Hon Ayew made this statement when he donated an amount of GHs 15,000 from his own coffers to the contractor working on the project.
“Because the assembly has refused to sign the document to release the money to the contractor, I am using my own pocket money which is an amount of Ghc15,000 to pay the contractor to start work for the good people of Bouya.
According to him, residents of Bouya and other communities have threatened not to vote in the upcoming 2020 Parliamentary and Presidential elections if they are not placed on the national GRID.
“Therefore as an MP, I saw the need to make this financial sacrifice to address the situation”.
