Asokore Mampong Municipality’s portion of the lockdown food items, which arrived on Saturday 11th April 2020 have been subjected to a strategic coordination for a peaceful distribution; Hon Alidu Seidu, Municipal Chief Executive Officer has disclosed.
He told leakynews.net that all measures needed to ensure that the relief items are totally isolated from political interference have been put in place, adding that authorities will see to it that bodies and organizations assigned by government for the distribution are those that will be allowed to carry out their functions.
He was quick to reveal that food items that arrived have been divided evenly for the two religious groups within the municipality (Islamic and Christianity) and have been disbursed to their respective clerics appointed to supervise the distribution to vulnerable people at their areas.
Out of the 222 sacks of rice, 100 sacks aside other items have been sent to the office of the Ashanti regional Chief Imam for the Muslim community whiles another 100 aside other items have also been fairly delivered at the Catholic Church locate at Sepe under the custody of one Father Douglas for the Christian community so as to ensure a peaceful distribution of the said items.
The remainder he disclosed will be handled by officials of NADMO and Social Welfare.
“All is set and we are prepared for distribution”, he assured in an interview with leakynews.net at the time Muslim clerics were bagging the items at central mosque.
For Hon Alidu Seidu, the NPP led government is sensitive to the welfare of Ghanaians especially in the wake of COVID-19, hence the introduction of the intervention in question for the safety of all Ghanaians especially those affected by the lockdown directive.
As government battles the terrible coronavirus, he advised residents within the municipality to adhere to all precautions such as regular hand washing with soap under running water, frequent application of hand rub sanitizers, social distancing among others.
On another note, Alhaji Ustaz Ahmed Seidu the Executive Secretary at the Office of Ashanti regional Chief Imam pledged that after the packaging, the leadership of specific areas within the various muslim communities will be invited for the items for distribution to vulnerable persons in their areas.
The items he noted is likely to cover over thousand individuals.
