
Mayor for Kumasi Metropolis Hon Osei Assibey Antwi on Monday paid an inspection visit at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) to access the progress of the construction of the Maternity and Children’s Block project.
With him were the Ashanti regional Minister Simon Osei Mensah and other officials of the assembly. Visiting the site of the project, authorities were impressed by the level of progress.
Mayor for Kumai Metropolis after the inspection gave his impression, stating that the exercise was not a mere optical illusion by a politician.

”Work is progressing steadily and I am convinced that the unwavering commitment of President Akuffo Addo will see to the completion of the age-old edifice to advance the health care needs of the people of the metropolis, Ashanti region and beyond.”, he assured.
On the 15th May 2020, President Akuffo Addo cut the sod and reactivated the construction of the facility which was abandoned for 44 years.
At the event, President disclosed then that €155 million funding for the project had been fully secured from German Deutsche Bank and the UK Export Finance to get the project completed in three years.
Giving his address, the President said, once the project is completed, the 750-bed facility would serve as a referral centre for 12 out of Ghana’s 16 regions.
“The finalisation of this project is very dear to my heart. It would help the country’s drive to achieve the targets spelt out in the Sustainable Development Goals on maternal and child health’’ he added.
