Kumasi central market opens on Thursday…traders regulated under strict code

Authorities of Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) have announced to officially open the now closed Kumasi Central Market on Thursday 9th April 2020 for trading activities.

Commercial activities by merchants according to an agreement reached between the Metro Security Council (METSEC), the eleven member steering committee and leaders of the sixty seven trade associations of the market will be regulated under strict conditions so as to help ensure their obeisance to the WHO’s social distancing protocol.

Per the newly coined list of code, all five thousand, Eight hundred and Twenty five food sellers at central market shall be grouped into three and that each group will be identified with a uniquely designed identity cards in RED,GOLD and GREEN colors.

Commercial activities of all groups will be carried out under a shift system.

A press release signed by the Public Relations Officer for KMA Madam Henrietta Afia Konadu Aboagye and copied to the office of leakynews.net discloses that only 1,942 members dealing in all assorted commodities of all trade associations shall be allowed by authorities to trade on each day.

According to the Public Relations Officer, the market will be opened for traders on Wednesday, 8th April 2020 for the formalization all arrangements pertaining to the rotational system to be practiced.

“There shall be no trading activities on the said day (Wednesday 8th April 2020), she stated in the release.
