Authorities of Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) have inducted and sworn into office 50 elected unit committee members of the Subin Sub-Metropolitan Council.

They represent all the ten electoral areas making up the sub-metro which are; Bamu Domenase, Nsuoase, Mfante New town, Asem, Asafo, Dadiesoaba, Amakom, Aful Nkwanta, Lobito and Amankwatia.

Held on Thursday 25thJune 2020, the inauguration and swearing-in were officiated by His Honor Abdul Razak Musah (Circuit Court Justice) and abruptly followed up with the selection of town councilors for the same sub-metro.

Intermittently, the version of Nhyiaeso Sub-metro took place on the same day at a separate venue.

45 unit committee members drawn from nine electoral areas were carried through the same processes.

Organized under a strict enforcement of covid-19 health protocols, the duo served as a capacity building conduit for members as they were schooled on the operational concept of the assembly and their responsibilities as spelt out in the sixth schedule Legislative Instrument  2260, Local Government  (Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly) instrument , 2017.

Mayor for the Metropolis Hon Osei Assibey in his address challenged that as government continues to undertake various projects across the country to hasten development, members of the unit committees are expected to co-operate with other stakeholders and officers of the assembly and coordinate processes that will see to the completion and utilization of projects executed.

“…the extent of interaction among various stakeholders is a determinant of how successful an activity will be.  Therefore, the success of your work as Unit Committee members largely depends on how best you are able to build relationships with stakeholders especially the Honorable Assembly members of your respective electoral areas. Honorable assembly members represent their areas at the Assembly and this makes them pivotal in the Assembly’s engagements with the communities. I entreat you to have a harmonious working relationship with the Honorable Assembly Members so that together , you can bring the needed development to the people you serve”.

Hammering so hard on sanitation, he charged them to play a lead role in the fight against filth by intensifying community sensitization on the effect of actions that pollute the environments.

He again cautioned that “your actions must be within the confines of the laws as provided for in the various legal instruments. Acting outside the law will have repercussions which we should all endeavor to avoid”.
