KMA Breaks Ground For Redevelopment Of Santasi Market

Officials of Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly on Thursday 12th May 2022 held a kickoff event to mark the begging of the redevelopment of the old Santasi satellite market into an ultra-modern commercial complex.

It is a pre-financed project and the re-construction which will be executed under PPPA conditions as disclosed by authorities is scheduled to cover a duration of 24 months.

The market after completion will constitute facilities including clinic, pharmacy, fire station, police post, crèche, a 20-seater lavatory, a loading terminal, sheds for traders, stores among others.

Speaking at the groundbreaking event, Mayor for the Metropolis Hon Sam Pyne  noted that plans have been put in place to ensure that the market after redevelopment will offer litany of services to traders, residents and neighboring communities.

He noted that decisions and plans on the sharing of shops and sheds to registered traders will not be an imposition.

Authorities of KMA according to him will enter into a dialogue with traders to come out with measures regarding the allocation to rightful traders.

Speaking to the media, he promised to ensure the continuation and completion of the long abandoned Krofrom and other satellite markets in areas including Pataasi, Amakom, Moshie zongo before the expiration of his tenure.

Sam Pyne expatiated that the construction and completion of the Kromfrom market has been delayed due to financial constraints but will ensure the challenge is addressed.

Aside the redevelopment of the Santasi market, Chief for the area Nana Amoako Kesse also called on authorities to assist in the renovation of a government JHS block in the area which in a sad condition.

Contractor in charge of the execution of the project Kojo Otoo (Abba Investment Construction firm) promised to complete work within the period of 18 months.
