Management of Kejetia market have introduced a new code to regulate the activities of traders within the terminal following fire outbreak that occurred few days ago.
Officials have announced that starting from 1st June 2021, the market will no longer be open from 6:00am to 10:00pm.
Per the newly instituted regulation, the facility will be open at 6:00 am through to the closure hour of 7:00pm.
Managing Director for the Kejetia market Mr. Kofi Duffour has given a stern warning that no trader or person will be permitted entry into the facility by 8:00pm, adding that anybody found within the market at the time of closure will be questioned and penalized.
Speaking in an interview, he said that when he was first posted to the Kejetia market as the managing director, he didn’t understand why the market was shut at 10:00pm.
“Because I don’t know of any market in Ghana where traders are allowed to trade till 10:00pm within a facility…When I came from Kaneshie to this place, I told myself that ah! Why 10:00pm.”
“I have informed them that from 1st June 202, wether they like it or not, nobody will be permitted to enter the facility by 8:00pm”, he said in an interview.
