Just In: Danger Looms At Atwima Kwanwoma, Residents Threaten ‘Demo’ Against Officials

Aggrieved residents of Kwanwoma Akyeremade, a community located within the Atwima Kwanwoma District of Ashanti region are lacing their boots to stage a massive protest against officials of Feeder Roads Department.

Reason for their yet to be hatched protest is premised on their prolonged failure to provide speed rumps on the road that stretches through the community despite the numerous complaints raised by occupants of the area through their assemblyman.

Residents who spoke on strict anonymity brought to bare that officials seem insensitive to the challenge in question.

The forgoing they underlined has given room for rampant vehicular knock-downs of residents and has led to the loss of innocent lives.

They have given authorities a 2-week ultimatum (starting from Friday 22rd July 2021) to address the situation.

Any failure on the part of authorities will trigger their intended action into motion without hesitation.

A highly embittered Assemblyman for the area Hon Baffour Awuah Justice told that over speeding now characterises the community.

He recounted that within just about two months, they have recorded not more than 18 road accidents and that out of the number 10 people lost their lives whiles others are left disabled.

He remarked that since he assumed office, he has officially called on the Regional Director of Feeder Roads Department for the construction of the speed rumps but his request was brushed under carpet.

He recounted that on 20th July 2020 and 17th November 2020 “I went to him with a letter requesting for the provision of speed rumps”.

In his narration, he recalled that the road was asphalted somewhere 2017 but he said he was informed by the Feeder Roads Director that per the conditions under the contract, putting up of speed rumps was not part.

Hon Baffour Justice said his request was relegated to the backyard and was told by the Director that his petition for speed rumps can only be considered in the subsequent road construction contract in the area.

He however indicated that considering how cars knock down residents in the area, “we cannot sit down and wait in patience for the commencement of a new contract whiles residents are dieing”.

“We will advise ourselves. If this issue is not addressed, nothing will stop us from protesting massively against officials and for that matter government”, he vowed.
