“shoot up fares and face my wrath”- MCE Alidu Seidu to “pragia” drivers @ Asokore Mampong

Chief Executive for Asokore Mampong Municipality Hon Alidu Seidu has vowed to deal sternly with any “pragia” driver reported for shooting up transport fares more than the normal charge.

The assembly together with the Municipal MTTD he announced are carefully monitoring their operations and will ensure that all commercial drivers stick to the normal bill.

“Intake of a maximum load of two passengers by all “pragia” drivers will be strongly monitored and that recalcitrant ones who fail to adhere will not be spared by authorities. This forms part of measure aimed at promoting the observance of social distancing among commercial drivers”, he strongly indicated.

Barely few days after the presidential order which called for a reduction in the number of passenger intake took effect, some drivers of motorised tricycles within the Municipality took up the habit of increasing their fares.

They dwelled their action on the pretext that they are unable to make sales because of the imposition and the only way to save the situation is to adjust the fares.

A charge on a journey made from Aboabo post office to Sawaaba junction which per the normal fare costs GHs 1.00 was adjusted by some of them to GHs 1.50.

That of Aboabo post office to Asokore Mampong also increased to GHs 2.00 instead of the normal GHs 1.50.

In a meeting held last week at the assembly by authorities with the various transport unions and traders within Asokore Mampong Municipality, Hon Alidu Seidu disclosed how officials cautioned commercial drivers to desist from the act.

Present at the meeting were the Municipal police commander and the MTTD commander.

Hon Alidu Seidu in an interview with leakynews.net reminded residents of the terrible nature of Coronavirus and advised all traders and commercial drivers within the Municipality to observe the social distancing protocol so as to save them from catching the infection.
