Chief of Dunkwa-On-Offin, Nana Obeng Nuako III has expressed great disappointment in President Akuffo-Addo over the relocation of the office of EPA from his area of jurisdiction to Obuasi.
The switch in location of the office of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and that of the Minerals’ Commission carried out under the watch of the President occurred few weeks after residents in the area voted massively for Nana Addo and the NPP during last year’s presidential
Nana Obeng Nuako III told www.leakynews.net that he was not even informed by officials on their decision to relocate, hinting that ” it was just two days ago that I received a hint that the offices of the two (EPA and Minerals Commission) has been moved to Obuasi. What we have here in Dunkwa-On-Offin at the moment is the skeletal representation of their offices”, he indicated.
He told this medium that he is highly peeved over the move owing to the fact that residents in the area have been consistent in voting massively for NPP in every general elections and never thought that the NPP and for that matter government could pay them back with such a calous reward.
“Meanwhile EPA and Minerals Commission has offices at Obuasi which is even more resourced than what we had here so why should you top them up with the only ones we had here?”, he angrily questioned.
Nana Obeng Nuako III explained to www.leakynews.net that the relocation will impose a great challenge on residents who are into legal mining since they have to travel all the way from Dunkwa-On-Offin to Obuasi for official documentations on their operations.
He continued that, the absence of the two agencies will even embolden illegal miners to engage in more illegalities.
He therefore called on President Akuffo-Addo to rescind the decision and bring the duo back to Dunkwa-On-Offin.
