Ghana gov’t absorbs 3 months bills on water as nation battles COVID-19

President of Ghana His Excellency Nana Addo Danquah Akuffo Addo has declared goverment’s decision to foot the bills on water usage for all Ghanaians as the nation battles COVID-19.

He announced in a televised nationwide address today 5th April 2020 that “government will absorb water bills for all Ghanaians for the next three months ie April, May and June” .

He went further to assure that all water tankers both privately and publicly owned will be mobilized to ensure the supply of water to all vulnerable communities.

As a way of easing the pressure on Ghanaians, he indicated that the Ghana Water Company limited and Electricity Company of Ghana have been directed by his government to ensure a stable supply of electricity and water within the period of lockdown and that there will be no disconnection of supply.

Further in his address, he made known that government in collaboration with the national board for small scale industries, business and trade associations and selected commercial and rural banks will roll out a soft loan scheme up to a total of 600 milion Ghana cedis for micro and medium scale businesses.­
