General Secretary (KUYA) calls for reduction in prices of sanitisers and nose masks

General Secretary for Kumasi Youth Association Mr Kwabena Frimpong has urged manufacturers of approved hand-rub sanitizers and face masks to beat down market prices of products.

He believes that cutting down prices will enable poor Ghanaians to make purchase in their bid to protect themselves against Coronavirus infection.

In a live studio interview on Boss morning drive (Boss Fm – Kumasi) hosted by Wofa Kofi Appiah, Mr Kwabena Frimpong who doubles as a social commenator lamented that, “before the coronavirus these products were sold at cheaper price.

Consequent to the pandemic, they are now sold at a high cost.

A box of disposable gloves before was sold at Ghc35 but currently the price runs between Ghc150 and Ghc200, Why ?”.

According to him, some of the manufacturers are behind the hiked prices, underling it as a carlous business strategy.

“It seems they love money more than the people. These products should be very affordable for the poor and the ordinary Ghanaian to purchase” he noted.

He continued that “since most people can’t afford these expensive products they have resorted to unapproved ways of making some for themselves. This is very dangerous for their health including all of us. Don’t forget that, if such persons get infected by the virus, the chances of they transferring the virus is very high. I think the best remedy is reducing prices of all approved face mask and hand Sanitizers.

He therefore appealed to authorities to engage manufacturers as a matter of urgency.
