Covid-19; Obuasi tops ranking as more residents test positive

Obuasi is currently ranked first among the 17 districts having confirmed cases of coronavirus in Ashanti region.

Out of the captured districts marked as areas having residents who have tested positive for the deadly covid-19, Obuasi is on top of all with a total of 47 confirmed cases and one recorded death.

Kwabre East comes second on the list with a total of 21 cases 0 deaths, followed by Kumasi Metro which has 3 recorded deaths and 19 confirmed cases.

4th on the ranking as indicated on a bar chart graph headlined “Reported Covid-19 cases and deaths by District in Ashanti region” is Asokwa with 19 confirmed cases, 5th Oforikrom (10 cases and 1 death), 6th Atwima Kwanwoma (8 cases 0 death), 7th Atwima Nwabiagya North(6 cases 0 deaths), 8th Asokore Mampong (6 cases zero deaths), 9th Suame (five cases zero deaths) Atwima Nwabiagya South (4 cases zero deaths).

Disclosing at a press briefing held at the Ashanti regional health directorate on 6th May 2020, Dr Yaw Ofori Yeboah- Deputy Director (Public Health) disclosed in his graphic presentation that districts that recorded more cases had more blood samples that were brought for test.

“The higher the blood samples, the more likely we will get positive cases in that district”, he explained.

So far the region in totality has 163 positive cases. 37 recoveries, 5 deaths, 3 total admissions and 118 homebased care has been recorded.
