COVID-19; many youth testing positive in Ashanti region



Out of the total number of covid-19 confirmed cases recorded by health experts in Ashanti region, the highest affected persons are youth, has been informed.

Youth who fall among the 68 cases confirmed so far are between the ages of 20-29.

According to info picked from the Ashanti regional Health Directorate during a press briefing, those belonging to the masculine gender are on top of the statistics.

54 percent are males whiles 46 percent are females, health experts have announced .

So far per the state of affairs, the region has recorded 3 deaths, 6 recoveries, 8 admissions and 51 homebased care.


Steps to mitigate the spread

Dr. Emmanuel Tenkorang, Regional Health Director announced that as part of measures aimed at mitigating the spread of the infection, officials have planned to conduct a mass screening at areas considered as hot spots in the region.

Occupants of various households he indicated will be allowed to undergo a voluntary test and that individuals who will test positive for covid-19 will be enrolled for treatment.

The Directorate he announced is considering testing those who fall within the high risk group such as frontline workers, commercial drivers, traders and people who come into contact with a lot of people.

They will also enhance surveillance by embarking on active contact tracing. He underscored in his statement that persons who will test positive will be isolated and quarantined, perhaps a mandatory quarantine for treatment.
