Covid-19 figures under protest @ Obuasi…youth snub recorded cases, claim they are false

Youth of Obuasi are highly enraged against health officials on the figures of confirmed covid-19 cases which has occasioned their first position on the district rankings for Ashanti region; www.leakynews.net has scooped.

They have spoken out that the recorded number of positive cases announced by officials are totally false, a medical deception and that medics are unnecessarily causing fear and panic among residents.

Per the claim by the Ashanti regional health Directorate that Obuasi has the highest number of positive cases, aggrieved youth expressed that since the inception of the pandemic, they haven’t sighted any resident in their respective neighborhoods who has tested positive for covid-19 adding that not even a family has shown a sign that a member has contracted the disease.

“We all know ourselves here. We haven’t seen anybody who has been put on isolation or reported for their blood samples to be tested. Covid-19 has killed nobody here because if a case of death had occurred within our neighborhoods, we would have known by now at least by the mournful and sorrowful looks of some family members”.

Speaking on a morning show program yesterday 20th May 2020 hosted on a Kumasi based radio station Nhyira Fm 104.5 MHz, the angry youth challenged health officials to name those they claim have tested positive for the virus as done in other foreign countries.

A resident who gave his name as Nana Oppong said officials are just lieing to the public and the international community.

He indicated that figures given by officials have exposed residents to a strong wave of stigmatization.

“A similar thing happened when HIV took a centre stage in Ghana. False reports went viral that workers of Obuasi Anglo Gold Ashanti have contracted HIV and are dieing…It was never true. It later turned out that it was some of the chemicals used in mining that was causing the problem and not HIV/AIDS”, a highly peeved resident recalled on the radio program.
