COVID-19; “don’t over rely on hand sanitizers”-Komfo Anokye CEO to Ghanaians

Chief Executive Officer for Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) Dr. Oheneba Owusu Danso has kicked against the over reliance on alcohol based sanitisers by majority of Ghanaians as a way of defending thesmselves against the deadly Coronavirus infection.

Since the dreadful COVID-19 seeped into Ghana with it’s attendant toll of infection and death, the normal trend of protection characterising the moment has been the application of hand sanitisers as though they are the only best defence against bacteria and viruses like Coronavirus.

This has given room for high demand, shortage of product and hiking of their market price in Ghana.

Addressing the media at the office of the Ashanti Regional Health Directorate, Dr. Danso cautioned Ghanaians not to over rely on hand sanitisers but should practice the habit of regular hand washing with water and soap.

“…the fact that you don’t have sanitizers should not be a big deal…if you have water, wash your hands as often as possible”.

He is a believer of the fact that regular hand washing with soap should supersede the use of sanitisers.
