
The whole of the central business district of the Kumasi Metropolice went dead-silent throughout the whole of today Friday 27th March 2020 consequent to a disinfection exercise carried out against the spread of coronavirus infection.
Areas within and around the Kejetia lorry terminal, Adum, Central market, alabar and Dr Mensah which are noted as a hotspot for business activities in Ashanti region came under a total blackout owing to the fact that no trader dared turned up
for business as usual- a prove of their obeisances to national order.
During the wee hours of today around 4:00am a team of government officials including the Ashanti Regional Minister Hon Simon Osei, Mayor for Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly Hon Osei Assibey, Deputy local Government Minister Hon Collins Ntim and staff of Zoomlion effected the much awaited full scale cleansing of the region including areas like Suame Magazine, Bohyen market, Atonsu market, Sokoban wood village, Race course market.

As part of the line of activity, close to a thousand workers of Zoomlion equipped with spraying machines including security personnel were dispatched simultaneously to the various satelite markets and terminals within the region.
Markets shelves, stalls, roads within the Metropolis were all disinfected till authorities brought the exercise to a halt around 2:00 pm.
Addressing the media, Mayor for KMA Hon Osei Assibey thanked traders for the level of compliance they demonstrated towards the exercise.
“Compliance was very high”, he remarked.
