Bekwai Municipal Assembly has so far registered 138 households for the construction of a bio digester toilet facility.
Registration commenced on Saturday 19th November 2022 and according to officials, the recorded figure is out of 621 households thak make up the municipality.
As a way of amplifying efforts at getting more enlisted, Municipal Health officer Mr. Eric Cudjoe has called on house owners to buy into the initiative so as to eliminate issues related to open defecation and ultimately enhance sanitation in the area.
Through a partnership with Kedat K7 Ghana Limited; a non-governmental organization, it has rolled out the intervention for all households within the municipality.
Beneficiaries will pay half of the actual cost whereas the remaining half is paid by the assembly.
It is scheduled to cover all 116 communities.
In an earlier interview with www.leakynews.net, Mr. Eric Cudjoe brought to light that the assembly has settled on embarking on a 4-month intensive public education, after which will start with an enforcement of the local government Act requiring landlords to provide toilet for their tenants, with associated penalties for defaulter.
