Recent call by President of the Republic of Ghana H.E President Nana Addo Danqua Akuffo-Addo for the retention of Asenso Boakye as MP for Bantama constituency has been thrown into the dustbin.
Close to 500 highly embittered rejected NPP delegates of the constituency, whose names were unconstitutionally deleted from the electoral album have vowed to vote massively against Hon. Asenso Boakye in the 2024 general election should he emerges winner of the upcoming parliamentary primaries.
Owing to surfacing of Ralph Agyapong ( a brother of MP Hon.Kennedy Agyapong) to contest for the seat, they have developed a strong perception that there is no way Hon. Asenso Boakye can emerge as the winner in the upcoming primaries, because the legislator according to them posses repulsive characteristic traits.
Addressing the press in Kumasi on Saturday, 18th November, 2023, members of the group called “Rejected NPP Delegates of Bantama Constituency” described the darling son of Nana Addo, Hon. Asenso Boakye as a disrespectful, an arrogant and a person who always assumes loggerheads postures against those who are friends with his opponent.
Mercy Mensah, a former 12 years NPP women organiser for Ohwim-Amanfrom Electoral area alledged that her name was callously deleted from the delegates album by the MP for no reason.
“I shared a video of a small girl on social media and the MP after sighting the video sent me a letter that President Nana Addo has directed him to annul my position as a delegate”.
She told this medium that she campaigned tireless from house-to-house to make Asenso Boakye MP for Bantama constituency “but he relegated my efforts and kicked my out”.
“I don’t think any of us will campaign for NPP this time…We are deeply hurt. Even if Asenso wins, we will note vote for him. I and my family will vote against him”, she said angrily.
Madam Mercy Mensah further mentioned that no amount of apology by the MP will win them back to his camp or the party.
“I don’t think he will even apologize because he is arrogant, autocratic and doesn’t respect anyone (including the Chief of Bantama) “.
Philip Adusei, a former 2 times NPP secretary for Ohim-Amanfrom also fingered that Asenso Boakye is a person who detests unity and correction.
“If you criticise him, he will be at loggerheads with you. His is even worse than that of a woman”.
Narrating his ordeal, he alledged that his name was deleted from the album few days after he had criticised the MP on a delegates platform.
“Asenso told me he doesn’t know Amofa Jantoa. So on one of the delegates platform, I shared a picture of him and Jantoa, questioned him on why he claimed he doesn’t know a person he has taken a picture with before.
Asenso Boakye wrote on the platform in response to my critique that I hate him because he failed to deliver on his promise of getting a job for me…I latter realised that my name has been deleted from the album”
Formation of Rejected NPP Delegates of Bantama
Executives of Rejected NPP Delegates of Bantama Constituency told the press that following the unpleasant treatment, they saw the need to come together as a group to champion a common cause; throwing their support behind a candidate or party of their choice and support the welfare of members.
Women Organiser for the group Mercy Mensah said they are even now far better off than when they were delegates of NPP.
She warned the new NPP delegates at Bantama to beware of Hon Asenso Boakye because “he will treat them the same way he did to us”.
