Four key individuals in ongoing investigations by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) into a leaked audio recording in which some people are heard discussing an alleged plan to remove the current Inspector General of Police, George Akuffo Dampare, from office, have been questioned by operatives of the Bureau.
The NIB has held sessions with the personal assistant to the former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Northern regional chairman Bugri Naabu.
His name is given simply as SK. Also at the NIB for questioning was the receptionist at Bugri Naabu’s office, Akua.
Bugri Naabu himself also appeared before NIB officials on Thursday (20 July 2023) to answer questions to further the investigations. He spoke with NIB officers until 4pm.
George Alex Mensah, the commissioner of police who is alleged to be at the centre of the contentious leaked audio recording, was also interrogated by the NIB after the session with Bugri Naabu.
NIB officials reportedly arrested the personal aide to Bugri Naabu and his receptionist in the early hours of Thursday 20 July 2023 to assist them in their investigations.
Following the broadcast of the content of the leaked recording on both social and mainstream media, there have been calls by certain figures in the political class for a thorough and independent investigation into the leaked recording in order to get to the bottom of the recording, identify its origin and decipher the motive behind it.
