30 March; Ghana locked down…citizens restricted for two weeks



His Excellency Nana Addo Danquah Akuffo Addo has announced an imposition of a total lockdown on all residents living within the Greater Accra, Greater Kumasi and other districts in Ashanti region

Tonight in a televised nationwide address, he ordered that effective from Monday 30th March 2020 at exactly 1:00 am, all persons living within the above-mentioned areas will be locked down for period of two weeks.

He underlined that affected persons will only be permitted to move out based on reasons revolving around  the purchase of essential items such as food, water, medicine, undertaking of banking transaction or use a public toilet.

Affected areas in the Ashanti region include; Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly, Suame Municipality, Old Tafo Municipality, Oforikrom, Asokore Mampong, Atwima Nwabiagya, Kwabre East, Afigya Kwabre South, Bosomtwe, Atwima Kwanwoma and Atwima Nwabiagya North district.

Affected areas in the Greater Accra  include the Accra Metropolice, Tema West Municipality, Tema Municipality, Ayawaso East,Ga North, Ga South, Ga East among others.


He indicated that the foregoing measures will give government the opportunity to halt the spread of the virus and also scale up effective contact tracing of persons who have come into contact with infected individuals.
