2020 elections: NBU officials hold 3rd community engagement at Asawase

Officials of the European Union Funded Project (No Business as Usual) on Saturday 17th October 2020 had their third community engagement event on peaceful elections with residents of Aboabo within the Asawase consituency.

It was patterned after preceding ones which took place at Asawase and New Zongo electoral areas. It saw the attendants of Islamic clerics, opinion leaders, assembly members, government officials and scores of youth in the area.

As usual, the focus was to sensitize residents on the need to avoid all potential triggers of election related violence as the constituency and for that matter Ghana prepares for the soon coming presidential and parliamentary elections, slated for 7th December 2020.

It was to ultimately save the whole of the constituency from the recurrence of violent incidents involving supporters of the two main political parties NPP and NDC considering the area been mapped as one of the hot spots in Ghana.

Present at the event were the Municipal Director for National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) Matthew Agbanu, Ashanti Regional Coordinator for KADET CORE Mr. Gideon Obeng, Hon Faisal Dauda- Assemblyman for Aboabo Extension, Alhaji Muntala Mohammed, Hon Mubarak Adam among others.

Matthew Agbenu NCCE Director in his statement spelt out some of the foul strategies employed by some political actors against their opponents during elections.

He explained that most politicians influence the youth with money to distract electoral processes at pooling centers.

Parents whose children are recruited in the act end up suffering the most following brutalities and injuries suffered  by their children in the wake of an erupted violence.

He therefore called on them to advise their children to resist any bad influence of political figures before, during and after the elections.

He said his outfit will soon hold an inter-party dialogue for a peaceful electoral process.

Vincent Ohene-Ntow (Program Manager SBs/PPPs/Action Plan-NBU PROJECT) in his address charged the youth to shun candidates or political figures  who will try to lure them to disrupt the elections.

”Whenever they approach you, tell them (politicians) to use their children instead”.
